Addition means putting two groups together to find out how many there are in all! Use your fingers, beans, or a number line to help you count.
- 5 + 4 = Count 5 fingers, then count 4 more = 9 โ
- 7 + 8 = Start at 7, count up 8 more = 15 โ
- 6 + 7 = Count 6, then 7 more = 13 โ
- 9 + 5 = Start at 9, count up 5 more = 14 โ
๐ Tip: Always start with the BIGGER number and count up from there โ it’s faster!
God even knows how many hairs are on your head! (Matthew 10:30) Numbers are part of the beautiful world God made. When we learn math, we are discovering the order God put in His creation!

When we read, we look for key details โ the most important facts in the story!
- WHO โ Who or what is the story about?
- WHAT โ What do they do?
- WHERE โ Where do they live or go?
๐ Read this passage about Florida Dolphins:
Dolphins are amazing animals that live in the ocean. Florida has many dolphins swimming along its beautiful coasts. Dolphins are mammals, which means they breathe air just like you and me! They come up to the surface to breathe through a special hole on top of their head called a blowhole. Dolphins are very smart and love to play. They swim together in groups called pods.
God made dolphins and gave them a special blowhole to breathe underwater! Genesis 1:21 says God created all the great sea creatures. Every detail of every animal shows how amazing God’s design is!

Everything in the world is either LIVING or NON-LIVING. Here’s how to tell them apart:
- LIVING things โ Grow, need food and water, breathe, and can have babies. Examples: plants, animals, people, insects
- NON-LIVING things โ Do NOT grow or need food. Examples: rocks, books, chairs, pencils, toys
๐ฑ How to check if something is living:
- Does it GROW? (A puppy grows โ a rock does not!)
- Does it need FOOD or WATER? (A flower needs water โ a pencil does not!)
- Does it have BABIES? (A cat has kittens โ a table does not!)
Only God can create living things! A factory can make toys and chairs, but only God can make a butterfly or a flower. Psalm 139:14 says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” โ YOU are God’s most amazing living creation!

A community is a place where people live, work, and help each other! Your neighborhood is part of a community.
- COMMUNITY HELPERS are people who have jobs that help everyone โ firefighters, teachers, doctors, police officers, and librarians!
- A MAP is a drawing that shows what a place looks like from above โ like a bird looking down!
- A MAP KEY explains what the symbols on a map mean. For example, a blue square might mean a school.
๐ Think about your neighborhood โ who are YOUR community helpers?
Jesus said the most important thing is to love God and love our neighbor! (Luke 10:27) Community helpers show love to their neighbors every single day. How can YOU be a helper in your community this week?
