Science Tie-In
Lake Eola Park β€” Nature Walk
πŸ“ Downtown Orlando Β· ~20 min
Take a nature walk around Lake Eola. Amy identifies states of matter in the real world: the lake water (liquid), rain puddles evaporating (gas), ice from a nearby snow cone cart (solid). Turns today’s science lesson into a scavenger hunt!
πŸ• 1–2 hours πŸ’° FREE 🌿 Outdoors πŸ‘Ÿ Walking
πŸ”¬ Science Connection: Bring Amy’s science journal. She sketches and labels examples of solids, liquids, and gases she finds in the park. Real-world application of SC.3.P.8.1 β€” and a great portfolio photo op!

✝️ Faith Integration Tips for Today β€” Deloris

πŸ”’ Math: Remind Amy that God designed the perfect order of numbers. Psalm 90:12 β€” “Teach us to number our days.” Ask her: “Why do you think God made our world work with numbers and patterns?”
πŸ“– ELA: After reading about manatees, discuss stewardship. Genesis 1:28 gives humans dominion over creation β€” what does that mean for how we treat manatees? Is protecting endangered animals part of honoring God’s creation?
πŸ”¬ Science: Ask Amy: “Can you think of a time in the Bible where water changed state?” (The parting of the Red Sea, the flood, Jesus walking on water.) Science and scripture connect beautifully when we look for it.
πŸ—ΊοΈ Social Studies: The Spanish missionaries who came with the explorers were motivated by Acts 1:8 β€” taking the Gospel “to the ends of the earth.” Discuss with Amy: “How can we share our faith with people around us today?”
⭐ Memory Verse Check: At 1:00 PM, have Amy recite Proverbs 3:5 from memory. If she gets it, celebrate! Consider adding it to a verse chart on the wall. Awana-style verse memorization builds a lifelong foundation.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
β€” Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
πŸ€” Today’s Reflection Question:
What does it mean to trust God with your whole heart, even when things are hard to understand? How can you show that trust today in your schoolwork?

⭐ Memory Verse Goal

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart…” β€” Proverbs 3:5

Practice saying this 3 times today! Tell Mom or Dad when you’re ready to say it from memory.

Mathematics

FL.3.NSO.1.1 β€” Place Value
Today you will learn about place value and how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100!

πŸ“š Today’s Lesson

Place value is how we know what each digit in a number is worth based on its position. Look at the number 3,456:

  • The 3 is in the THOUSANDS place = 3,000
  • The 4 is in the HUNDREDS place = 400
  • The 5 is in the TENS place = 50
  • The 6 is in the ONES place = 6

Rounding Rules:

  • Nearest 10: Look at the ONES digit. 5 or more = round UP. 4 or less = round DOWN.
  • Example: 347 β†’ nearest 10 = 350 (because 7 β‰₯ 5)
  • Nearest 100: Look at the TENS digit. Same rules apply!
✝ Faith Connection

God counts every hair on your head! (Matthew 10:30) Numbers are part of the beautiful order God created. When we understand math, we see how precisely and perfectly God designed our world.

FL.3.R.2.1 β€” Main Idea & Details
Today you will find the main idea and supporting details in a passage about Florida manatees!

πŸ“š Today’s Lesson

The main idea is the MOST IMPORTANT idea in a text. Supporting details give us MORE information about the main idea.

How to Find the Main Idea:

  • Ask yourself: What is this passage mostly about?
  • Read the first and last sentences of each paragraph
  • Look for repeated words or ideas β€” those are clues!

πŸ“„ Read this passage about Florida Manatees:

The Florida manatee is a gentle giant that lives in warm, shallow waters. Manatees are large, gray mammals that can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds. They eat mostly sea grasses and plants, spending up to 8 hours a day eating. Manatees are very slow swimmers, which unfortunately makes them vulnerable to boat propellers. Many conservation groups work hard to protect these peaceful creatures, and Florida has made manatee protection areas where boats must slow down.

✝ Faith Connection

God made every creature with purpose and beauty! Genesis 1:21 says God created the great sea creatures. Being good stewards of manatees honors the Creator who made them.

Science

SC.3.P.8.1 β€” States of Matter
Today you will learn about solids, liquids, and gases β€” the three states of matter!

πŸ“š Today’s Lesson

Everything around us is made of matter β€” anything that takes up space and has weight. It comes in three states:

  • SOLIDS β€” Definite shape and size. Examples: rocks, wood, your pencil, a Bible
  • LIQUIDS β€” Take the SHAPE of their container. Examples: water, juice, honey
  • GASES β€” Spread out to fill their container. Examples: air, steam, your breath

πŸ§ͺ Try This Experiment Today:

  • Put an ice cube (solid) in a glass β€” watch it melt into water (liquid)
  • Watch steam from hot water with Mom or Dad (gas)
  • You just watched matter CHANGE STATES! God designed matter to respond to temperature.
✝ Faith Connection

Psalm 24:1 β€” “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.” Every solid, liquid, and gas in our world belongs to and was designed by God. Science helps us discover His amazing creation!

Social Studies

SS.3.A.1.1 β€” Florida History
Today you’ll learn about the Native peoples of Florida and the first European explorers!

πŸ“š Today’s Lesson

Before European explorers arrived, Florida was home to many Native peoples who had lived there for thousands of years!

  • TIMUCUA β€” Northern and central Florida. Known for farming, fishing, and large villages.
  • CALUSA β€” The “Shell Indians” of the southwest coast. Built mounds from shells and were strong warriors.
  • APALACHEE β€” Skilled farmers in the panhandle who grew corn, beans, and squash.

European Explorers:

  • JUAN PONCE DE LEON (1513) β€” First European in Florida. Named it “La Florida” (land of flowers) during Easter season.
  • HERNANDO DE SOTO (1539) β€” Led a large expedition through Florida seeking gold.
✝ Faith Connection

The Spanish explorers brought missionaries to share Christianity. Acts 1:8 β€” “You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.” This is how the faith spread to the Americas.
