Place value is how we know what each digit in a number is worth based on its position. Look at the number 3,456:
- The 3 is in the THOUSANDS place = 3,000
- The 4 is in the HUNDREDS place = 400
- The 5 is in the TENS place = 50
- The 6 is in the ONES place = 6
Rounding Rules:
- Nearest 10: Look at the ONES digit. 5 or more = round UP. 4 or less = round DOWN.
- Example: 347 β nearest 10 = 350 (because 7 β₯ 5)
- Nearest 100: Look at the TENS digit. Same rules apply!
God counts every hair on your head! (Matthew 10:30) Numbers are part of the beautiful order God created. When we understand math, we see how precisely and perfectly God designed our world.

The main idea is the MOST IMPORTANT idea in a text. Supporting details give us MORE information about the main idea.
How to Find the Main Idea:
- Ask yourself: What is this passage mostly about?
- Read the first and last sentences of each paragraph
- Look for repeated words or ideas β those are clues!
π Read this passage about Florida Manatees:
The Florida manatee is a gentle giant that lives in warm, shallow waters. Manatees are large, gray mammals that can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds. They eat mostly sea grasses and plants, spending up to 8 hours a day eating. Manatees are very slow swimmers, which unfortunately makes them vulnerable to boat propellers. Many conservation groups work hard to protect these peaceful creatures, and Florida has made manatee protection areas where boats must slow down.
God made every creature with purpose and beauty! Genesis 1:21 says God created the great sea creatures. Being good stewards of manatees honors the Creator who made them.

Everything around us is made of matter β anything that takes up space and has weight. It comes in three states:
- SOLIDS β Definite shape and size. Examples: rocks, wood, your pencil, a Bible
- LIQUIDS β Take the SHAPE of their container. Examples: water, juice, honey
- GASES β Spread out to fill their container. Examples: air, steam, your breath
π§ͺ Try This Experiment Today:
- Put an ice cube (solid) in a glass β watch it melt into water (liquid)
- Watch steam from hot water with Mom or Dad (gas)
- You just watched matter CHANGE STATES! God designed matter to respond to temperature.
Psalm 24:1 β “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.” Every solid, liquid, and gas in our world belongs to and was designed by God. Science helps us discover His amazing creation!

Before European explorers arrived, Florida was home to many Native peoples who had lived there for thousands of years!
- TIMUCUA β Northern and central Florida. Known for farming, fishing, and large villages.
- CALUSA β The “Shell Indians” of the southwest coast. Built mounds from shells and were strong warriors.
- APALACHEE β Skilled farmers in the panhandle who grew corn, beans, and squash.
European Explorers:
- JUAN PONCE DE LEON (1513) β First European in Florida. Named it “La Florida” (land of flowers) during Easter season.
- HERNANDO DE SOTO (1539) β Led a large expedition through Florida seeking gold.
The Spanish explorers brought missionaries to share Christianity. Acts 1:8 β “You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.” This is how the faith spread to the Americas.
